The UPS originated from Seattle, Washington, the United States, was made on August 28, 1907. The American Messenger Company started in Seattle. The teenagers James E. Casey and Claude Ryan created the UPS Company borrowing $100 as their initial capital to start and set up the shop beneath Ryan’s uncle’s tavern. The first workers of the UPS company are delivering foot on and using bicycles to distribute the item to the customers. After a year, in 1912, the second office opened; the following year, the company merged the first delivery truck that converted to Model T Ford. The UPS founder focused on delivering merchants to stores in different cities and changed the name to Merchants Parcel Delivery.

In 1916, the employee Charles Soderstrom proposed to paint the truck dark brown that tends to camouflage grime—after a year, Ryan decided to leave the company. Two years later, his friend Casey expanded their business outside Seattle. Operations in Oakland, California, where the industry first used United Parcel Service until 1925 all over the West Coast. The UPS company was allowed to gain competitive strengths using maximizing network efficiency and asset utilization.

The Company’s Expansion

Five years after, the UPS moved its department to Newyork City to steadily expand the business. But like in other companies that are facing, UPS experienced challenges in the past years in the industry. The store started to decrease a delivery because our economy is growing and people have enough cars to carry the items moved to their home. The territorial expansion began in 1953. Aside from experiencing challenges, they’re also a competition in the business field. The UPS matches the parcel post service of the U.S Post Office that is now called the U.S Postal Service. In the same year, they moved to Greenwich, Connecticut. It became international by expanding it to Canada and continued to increase with over 200 countries and territories.

United Parcel Service was also entering the field of Airline in 1988 and operated by the “main global hub” in Louisville, Kentucky, and run in the first 21st century with 200 jet aircraft. And in 1991, the UPS main office needed to be moved again; this time, Sandy Springs, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta. The company added their service with mailboxes called UPS Store. James Casey has a determination to pursue the business that it started. It became very successful internationally and used by many. His courage to run the company is up until his last breath in 1983. The rest of his family and UPS executives will be part of the business history. And after some years, the business was an offer to be released and first shared in public in 1999.
